post medical

rode over to nats pancake birthday party saturday night, that was after the rain had stopped and the sun had gone to sleep. it was really fun, i made baby egg rolls and fairy floss, hugged lots of people and then headed off into the moonlight (unfortunately cloud drowned out the moon but at least it had stopped raining). theres no avoiding full moon adventures being a curly.

rode over to a structure id been intending on checking out for a few weeks. the main issue with getting into the building was its close proximity to in use hospital buildings, so it was something to be attempted at the wee hours of the morning. with my work hours, that opportunity doesnt come by too often.
but this night, it felt right!

for whatever reason i decided to ride directly through the hospital grounds coz well... i ride a motorbicycle and you can do things like that pretty easily. this of course attracted attention from people id prefer to remain some annonymous human towards.
rolling besides the lodges i killed the engine and flipped out the sidestand, to look up and see on site security parked right beside me:

"do youze live here?"
"ahh well, yeh."

i dismounted princess bikehead and began removing my helmet
the guard then notices im wearing an australia post hi vis jacket
"oh. arya a postie?"
"yes."
"oh. so youze jus parkin ere to go to work?"

wow thanks for giving me an excuse there mr seccer, haha, always pays to be polite, honest and only reply with yes or no

"yup."
"okay, no worries then"

so the guard drove back towards the centre of the grounds, started footing it to the perimeter fence around the abandoned structure to realised i might have to climb the fence directly outside a heavily lit building obviously in use...

meh... ill be quiet and quick! got on foot up and there just so happened to be a chair sitting against the other side of the fence haha (was meant to be obviously). the lower levels of the structure had been stripped and the walls had been knocked through, made it rather simple to enter, hitched myself up and into the stairwell.

the signage and building materials felt rather mid 1900's-esque and the odour of mouldy rain soaked carpet hit me hard reaching the third floor. i swung by each level, had that really typical uniform straight corridor with wards and rooms n bathrooms each side, some really awesome looking old clock fixtures set horizontally from the wall. i could tell a whole lot of the interior had been thrown off the balconies and into the tip nearby, but there was still enough old documents and medical equipment left to keep me interested.

being a full moon i felt an overwhelming urge to find my way up to the rooftop, after the distractions in the floors below. one of the stairwells led me to the 9th floor, and from there i scoured each room until i found the latch leading up further.

hello tank, hello motor room, hello window

there were two floors of intact lift motor rooms/aircon/water and gas tanks/plantrooms before i found my way out a broken window onto the scaff. when it comes to easily visible scaff antics i tend to limit my exposure to 10 storeys or higher (unless there absolutely no other option for things i MUST get on top of). so this was perfectly comforting for me.

there were scaff'd stairs leading up most of the way. the last bit i had to lurch up and over the edge to the rooftop. oh! yes! the sky was clouded over still but id made it to a structure id been eyeing off for ages and wondered if id ever know what its like atop

the most wonderful thing happened as i was soaking in the views of the city, the sky opened up and all the sudden the clouds started doing their magic! whooshing overhead migrating down the coast, yay!

yay! move your magical cloudy butt silly cumulus bitches!!

to celebrate i slipped into my rainbow starbrite costume, and went to the blue side of the roodtop, the construction site next door had been covered in blue meshing. kept a look out over the main part of the hospital grounds for activity, didnt notice a thing.

i spent a couple of hours up there, pottering about and laying on the ledge loving the moonlight and doing something different above ground. i could see all the way to the otherside of sydney cbd.

eventually climbed back down into the building. went and hung out on the balconies overlooking a large warehouse ive grown to know very very well over the last year. talked to mumma who had drunk too much and was about to head home from her school reunion.

yay! couches provided!

i then diverted my attention to the construction site next to the 50's building, and altho it wasnt really that high/might/exciting it was...there! there was a slight gap between the two buildings and that made me think itd be possible to avoid having to go to the ground floor and enter the c site from there. ive grown paranoid of PIR's in c sites since a couple close calls in major sites. (namely one in brisbane- eeek)

so i sized up the gap, it seemed totally doable from the 9th floor, open window and scaff to grip the other side. i shoved my cam and pod under my left arm and clenched my bag between my teeth and took the leap outwards, my left foot made contact with the scaffd site...

...there i was stretched between two buildings, moon shining down star filled skies above, hitting im guessing about 2-3am...tense but calm moment. without warning i hear a sudden burst: the opening of a hang glider parachute thing, directly in front of me maybe only tens of metres away. it scared shit out of me, but still with my grip i slid back into the window and recollected myself thinking "since when do people skydive in the middle of the city at this time of night!?" haha. fuckin base jumpers. sure enough i look up to the tip of the crane to see two more shadowey sihouttes, one pin drop and free fall for fractions of a second before releasing their chute and glide easily over to a rooftop carpark. it was very tranquil and special to witness, with the moonlight and all, seeing the third figure drop from the crane. upon landing each base jumper grabbed their chutes and ran for a vehicle (tight operation!) and sped off not a minute later.
the moment passed, i breathed easy and then i thought "fucking cunts! ruin my fun! those bitches beat me grrrrrrrrrr"
i thought id better get the fuck outta here also now a scene like that has been staged. haha!

and i did exactly that.

just visited roguey baby to say a goodbye of sorts, we ate polski dumplings, and took a couple photos, i was all happy and it was lovely to see him, but after hugging him and walking from his front door in pymble the reality of it all set in so quick! i got all teary!! at first i wondered if the sore lump in my throat was the onset of tonsilitis or that intense emotion building up into a physical ball of lumpyness, and it seemed to be both.

made it home okay, through peak hour traffic and now im having those waves of reminiscence and teary stuff similar to when niki left!

awww im gunna miss my roguey bear

swelled face and sleeplessness

the only appointment i could secure in time was friday 2pm, so i worked out with my manager at work that id start work early in order to make the appointment and work full rostered hours also.

so i thought id get some good rest last night, but i rolled about till around midnight. the dreamt something amazing during the night. they were doing some construction works in lane cove, and i could see a big hole so i jumped the fence to have a look and phwoah it was fuckin mind blowing they had excavated hundreds of metres down, stormwater canal leading down and spiraling around the outer edge of the hole all the way down. wow!!! I remember rushing home to pick up my camera coz id only get to explore it while its in construction, got back shortly after with my camera and the site had been developed into an amusement park, the coiled stormwater underground channel hundreds of metres deep as the main attraction. then my alarm woke me up.

felt like midwinter getting ready for work in the dark (without the coldness), wasnt as messy of a morning as i had expected. getting up at 4 is only 1 hour earlier than im used to i guess.

wet slippery morning on the roads, theres quite a difference in traffic on the roads between 5 and 6am. got to work 2mins quicker than usual haha (which is relatively substantial considering it usually takes 8mins at 6am). got changed quickly in the locker room, which was totally empty (cant think of any postie girls who do early starts) and went out into the mail processing facility. it was so quiet and peaceful! a few of the old postmen were plugging away at their first class mail, they have retained their early starts and therefore penalty rates for 30+ years.

got all my mail sorted and bundled and ready for the contractors to take out by 8:30 which felt great, out of the delivery facility by quarter to 9 and on the road by 9 with my take out mail in the panniers. i was in the zone... the postie zone... shoving those mail items in a blink and hitting the throttle before the customers can wave hello at me. got rid of 1/3 of my days worth of mail in 45mins. got to my first depot box to fill up the second third, and the fuckin box was empty! GRRR!!! waited 20mins, called my boss, he says "the contracters new to the scene, hes confused, hes on his way"

GRR!

so i ended up waiting for the mail to turn up for an hour, while a storm hit. it felt awful, coz out there while ur in the zone doing the non stop delivery you can rid of a shitload of mail in an hour. i felt slightly frustrated, but ended up laying against a tree trunk munching on a banana watching the staff in ashley house aged care shift tho oldies about. yikes, what a life, the bitter and morbid end: reeling over in a chair looking like ur hardly living at all, i wonder how they are feeling emotionally coz from what i could gather with the expressions on their faces they are fucking bored and in lots of pain.

mail arrived, the contracter asked me for directions and i zoomed off to deliver maquarie/lamette/royal/milton/crick which zig zags over the downstream end of scotts creek canal. the storm had seriously swelled the stormwater channel and had caused gutterboxes to block up and flood the streets. bottom of crick st was underwater, stupid pissy little gutters, they need to do some upgrades! :)

managed to finish off my run by 12:30, which worked well, made it to my appointment early. now my face is swelled and red and puffy and hurty, but i can finally rest...

Out... there.... somewhere!

On friday instead of getting out of bed at 5 and heading off to work, I headed out to the airport and caught a plane interstate. Sydney was wet and muddy and yukky, so it was pleasant in itself to not be working. All the excitable and anticipationary vibes were filling up my brainmeats again: the adventure had begun!!
plane took off crrrrrrrsssssssssssssshhhhhhkt on time (yay!)

way up at cruising altitude, i was continually readjusting my posture (never getting comfy- damn postie pains) gazed occasionally out the window i drifted in and out of consciousness not quite ever reaching what id call proper sleep. flights to adelaide always felt special during morning light, you pass over the all the remote desert/plains spanning hundreds of kilometres without breakand those vast lands containing just a few dotted towns and the checker/chessboard style farming allotments multi-pale-coloured.

the plane shifted about the pockets of air above adelaide hills, i spotted the large lake atop elis tomb and felt well in touch with the lovely radelaide tunnels already :) the plane took an uncommon course, usually the plane will curve round to the south and out to the ocean, pull back into the city over glenelg and such to land, but this time it flew directly over the city, above the torrens and the o-bahn!! weather looked so appealing, sun and happies.

india was waiting for me up in the terminal so so sweet i rarely get the pleasure of pickups. he smiled lots and gave me a big awesome hug at the gate :)

cruised on through adelaide town in the ladamobile, weather was so much nicer here than sydney! met up with the melbourne kids and elfen back at the house of india and elfen, i was given tasty chilli vegetable soup that had been prepared the night before for the vegies expo... yum!!

blackducks rad GFPMD reversed tshirt thingy

the convoy of two vehicles migrated up n out of town, via great north road, i spotted a HUGE like errr 15m tall bloody tampon with a pubic hair on top of it (well, maybe u had to be there to understand... or live near elizabeth). quick pit stop for sandwiches and salad and then up the sturt highway, whizzing around road trains and PONIES!! and little towns like Nuriootpa n Yunta and PONIES!!!!

look! another servo! theres a truck in that one! look! PONIES!!

india had been driving laque and i through the rolling plains for a good hour or two, when i turned to the right saw PURPLE! purple EVERYWHERE!!!!! WOW!! so i got india to pull over while laque and i went and frolicked in field of purple and the sun hit that golden stage of setting.

i specifically remember taking a photo of balckduck also, but now i cant find it!

sunset was so peaceful, my surroundings were making me all hush and relax, but still excitable coz the full moon was approaching. and when it did, pwwwoaaaAH!! damn it was gorgeous, all big and cheesy coloured on the horizon!! so bright and full that it was reflecting off the bitumen :)

we pulled out of a town called yunta, and hit a dirt road passing a huge sign "WARNING: REMOTE AREAS" (yay! we're getting there!)this is when i realized i was a long way from my parents place in sydney, and a long way from my postie job and then it all vanished and i just felt the all those dust ridden filthy gawwdamn outback vibes maaa fuckka!! YES!!!

the ladamobile was loving it!! bouncing all over the dirty mounds and over crests n under dips and weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. i was having so much fun! id never been in a bouncy russian car before!! heeeeeee
then all the sudden india stopped, and pointed to a protrusion over the horizon. it was the smelter!!! our home for the night!! off the dirt road and up even bouncier and unpredictable trails the ruins cut into a hillyside of shrubbery. we decided to set up matresses and food eating devices in an old shack thing with a door but no walls, but most importantly, there was a corro sheet cover (woohoo! SHELTER! of sorts...)

the atmosphere of this place was magical, looking out shrubs and dust as far as the eye can see. the ruins of smelter were crumbling little insignificant piles of crud comparatively to the landscape around us.

laque and i sitting side by side a corroded chimney looking out into the endless desert

the smelter had sure seen more productive days, hard to imagine that decades ago people lived here: manly miner men who did manly work throughout the harsh manly summers sweating pools of man sweat (PONIES!!!!)

the main stack, still standing at the top of the hillside

india cooked a tasty yum stir fry for dinner and bongarse and the melbourne kids ate crackers n pasta n stuff. living the high life baby, damn we got it sweet us outta towners, should be out strangling snakes to death with our BARE HANDS and cooking them up on a stone in the sun if we were real ummmmm yeah...

while a few people went and checked out the ruins, i was delving deeper into other attractions over the other side of the hill. i found a big gaping steep mine shaft, seemed at first a bit too risky to enter, but my exploring spirit took over me. and there i was in 2004 saying id never enter a mine again (hah!)

sitting at the top of the shaft painting things blood coloured

what made it most appealing was the way the moon had been aligned up perfectly with this shaft, the light was streaming all the way down to the bottom. timing couldnt have been more perfect! so i took my first cautious steps into the shaft, trying not to put too much of my weight on the loose chunks of rock covering the floor, and damn it was steep. but, slowly i made my way to the bottom, where it grew into a chamber approx 30m wide and 5m tall, two standing-human sizedtunnels dugout from the bottom of the chamber.

dancing cautiously with sparklers, over the chunks of stone and general shit dumped down the shaft

so i took the most stable looking tunnel which curved down and to the left, seemed to open up into another chamber. the floor was fucked and the walls crumbled with a slight touch, so i looked down to the chamber to find that there was a serious drop, and even if i did somehow get down there, theres little chance id get back up (definately not good options)

peering downwards, to the tunnel from the chamber.. sparkling :)

looking back up into the tunnel, just above the second chamber. this is about as far as i pushed

i was quite calm and collected. its always exhilarating to explore something that wouldve taken so much to dig out, so long ago. i started to hum and mumble sugababes lyrics and lay back a bit then all the sudden i heard a small collapse up the tunnel (eeek!!)

okay, ive had enough! i cautiously wriggled my butt on up out. this mine was much easier to ascend than other larger commercial mines which id gotten hundreds of metres underground into, but its dodgy fucked up footing junkpile shit made it particularly difficult. something id gotten into my head from previous experiences went round in my head again and again "mines in operation are dangerous, mines out of operation are fucking dangerous"

back above ground the air was no longer stale and choked with dust, i was breathed heavily from that little experience, lay in the cool night breeze. thought id try find the others. this wasnt too difficult, india/bong/duck were throwing sparklers and glowsticks up in the air under the smelter stack :)
showed them the mine entrance and we stumbled across conveyor shafts/egresses/collapsed bits along the way.

once again i went off by myself, and found a small lonely ruin to sit upon and feel totally awesomely free. i had a bit of a spiritual thing happen there gazing up at the starry sky, a jet streaked high above the clouds, without sound reaching thus far. a thick trail of vapor was left in its path and the moon lit it all up so pretty like. then i heard a roaring sound disturb the moment liking a rocket, which turned out to be a road train at full speed kilometres away following the dirt road towards yunta. those two human driven objects in that five minute period ended up being the only connection id had with human existence the whole night. eeeee :)

out... there... somewhere

india and i headed out to the ghost town around 2am, and the sky turned circular with the moon and clouds forming the most substantial aura id seen in my life! the two of us were standing beside an old rusty tank when we noticed.

india and the tank, last writings scribbled in the 60s-70s

the substantial aura: wow!!

the ladamobile bumped and bounced its way over to the ghost town centre, where a few buildings still remained partially standing. the nowhere else hotel was the most prominent old structures left built from mine spoil it would seem: lotsa stone baby!

the pub, aye!

the pubs floor had rotted away and the roof had long collapsed, trees had established their roots in place and decorated the naked innards nicely. fireplaces still stood proudly, it was a homely feeling place but totally still and ghostly and ruined!!

lunar deity curliette

finally india and i had mutual feeling of...exhaustion! drove back up to the hill where our comfy (hard concrete floor) and homely (freezing cold) shack (without walls) was awaiting us. we slept, but not exactly solid sleep :)
india "goodnight darling" curly "goodnight m'dear"

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
brrrrr

stupid postie pains!!

aaaarg.

got up around 6am and grabbed a bog roll from laquey baby. went to my lonely ruin, took a shit with the nearby black snakes and kangaroos. the snakes were particularly morbid and motionless at that time of morning, soaking in the early sun rays charging up their energy stores gettin their blood pumpin.

laquey baby and i went for a wander shortly after my return to the shack. followed a trail out in an unknown direction, which led us to many many more shafts and mine entrances. we danced and sung along to curlys lil speakers pumping out random shit.

laquey baby taking purdy pictures of bird nesting in an old vertical shaft

i walked a bit ahead and stumbled across a rad little mine. it had a kindly sloped shaft which met a tall vertical shaft filled with pigeon nests, floor covered in pigeon shit. GORGEOUS!! my speakers were blasting away osymyso's track "cuckoo" oddly enough when the sweet dreadlocked adelaidian appeared above me. we giggled and checked it all out but the tunnel shrunk and looked less than appealing (and was filled with pigeon excrement .

under the vertical shaft: mine love :)

our stroll curved back towards the shack, and halfway back skipping the prickly bushes and shrubs the heat started to hit, and with the heat the flies started to swarm. returning to base the others were already half packed up (good we were all on the same wavelength, fuck off before the heat gets unbearable)

next on our checklist: get back to yunta via the dirt road, get a bit of fuel. that worked out pretty straight forward. it was sure an outta town servo. a very special lady who appeared to be working at the servo was opening up the fridges and turning all the drinks so they would face label forward, at an alarmingly slow rate. she even managed to knock a bottle out of the fridge and smash on the floor, to which she breathed out heavily and sharply blurted "DAMN!"
a socially intact lady at the counter looked over to the special lady standing above a puddle of softdrink and broken glass "joanne laarve, you alright dear?"

we were on the bitumen again, zooming up the highway towards broken hill. the lada was a sweatbox!! every 50km or so wed open up these latches at the front of the car for a huge blast of air which we would all be so so grateful for heheh

reached the inland mining city by noon, and boy was it nice to get outta the sweatbox and into a larger, quieter sweatbox with showers and matresses and creaky floors and a kitchen!! wooo! yup we had a HOOOSE! thanks again laquey baby and laqueys father baby! charged phone, napped, went coles got food, generally just got prepared for the evening. one night out on the mining town ooohyeh!!

we headed out for browns shaft (tourist cuntland) and to that big chair thing (touristified CUNTFACE) hahahahahah

tried to access a minehead/crushing facility/old conveyor and other assorted tanks/buildings that pizzy/eli/laque and i had accessed not too long ago. i had thought sunset would be awesome in there. but it was different this time round. no holes to just jump on in this time and then a whole heap of paranoia, which doesnt mix so well with good times exploring old things.

laque had squeezed under the fence coz wed seen blackduck smiling and waving at us from up in the main structure in the site. i turned around to see bong and india making very expressive arm movements and bodily expressions to not go in and come and talk to them, they were across the road staying well back.

apparently theyd seen a security vehicle do its rounds, turn and park nearby. thats a founded statement to pay attention to before entering the site. they pointed out the vehicle to me and it was one which had driven right past laquey and i scouring the fencing for holes (which were no longer). hmm the whole situation had turned to shit.
so we got going

went to cook dinner. was TASTY!!
news from adelaide on the phone was a hyooooge lightning storm had hit and was heading straight for broken hill. i was picturing a lovely moonlit warm night exploring rad shit but it was far from that once wed driven up to a good vantage point to see the approaching storm.

the "underground" hahaha. see the distant storm behind it? not so well, the image is small and compressed

the winds were picking up, strong enough to make it difficult to walk in a straight line. drove over to another lookout type thing with a couple 'voirs atop. i spotted an awesome old bendy rusting car and headed for that grabbing laquey baby to come with me. standing beside the old car a torch shone upon the two of us. out of the violently swinging tree branches what seemed to me to be a unmistakable sihouette: a full on bogan with a mullet wearing a singlet and shorts. he interrogated us "oi, whatchaz doin?"
i explained in brief i just wanted a photo of (obviously his) car (which was chained to a tree trunk i noticed when lighting struck and lit the scene). he seemed happy and walked back up his driveway, to stand exactly where hed appeared from and the silhouette didnt move (SCARY!)

not a minute later, the storm hit with cyclonic force, laque and i huddled in a concrete booth while it went fuckin nuts outside. lucky timing to find the booth huh!

we ended up back at the house, the others were up the hill when the storm hit and they got completely drenched! so the night started to wind up unpredictably early. it got to midnight and most people were going to bed (we hadnt slept much that morning)

but but but curly couldnt imagine letting the night disappear if this is the one and only night shell be in town!!! so i set an alarm for 4am to at least go for a walk and see what happens. i slept for a few hours, and then got up and got my shit together, sat on the porch to put my shoes on. the gale force winds were still blowing the town about and rain was still falling quite heavily. it was fuckin cold all the sudden (spesh coming from bed, mind u i didnt hvae sheets so it was cold there too).

i sat and contemplated. fuck it. *legs start going one in front of other*

the town was dead, one car passed me blaring subwoofer driven electronic music but that pretty much sums up the activity. found myself standing before a large structure id stood before many times before, dreaming of what its like close up, on top of, inside of. id been told by people un-inspirational things of this site, id been told "yeah, it looks abandoned but its still used"

haha. BULLSHIT!!

this site was a hugely exciting place to end up without any expectations. with the current abandoned climate in australia its really rare to find a 1930's structure standing, let alone in this condition (its original condition, untouched). it had all the elements of a perfect abandonment: large buildings and rusted tangled piping, pigeon shit, doors swinging open and close on their hinges (squeaaaak), broken windows, water towers, and most importantly it was pristine. pristine in the sense that it was untouched since it went out of use (as far as i know 20 years ago). theres no reckless teenage damage, shitty tags/graffiti, no locks or alarms (!) geeez, it had been a while since id come across something like this. all the wear on the building is wear that had occurred through dilapidation.

the sun had fully risen, and i felt a bit exposed:

so i checked a couple last things, and headed back to the house where the others were sleeping. i couldnt go back to sleep tho, my head was in a world of industrial fantasy. and it was when i usually get up for work anyway. oh yeah, work tomorrow. hmmm.

everyone packed up and the day flew past. the melbourne kids drove off in the direction of melbourne and the adelaide kids (and curly) went in the direction of adelaide. we stopped off at a set of silos, and an abandoned train station on the way back, but had to keep the pace coz i had a flight back to sydney leaving at 6pm.

yay :)

what a fuckin awesome getaway. cant wait to go back again soon

wet sore ouch, YAY

hmmm, its always a bit dampening on your birthday spirit to work almost 12 hours and get home and just wanna crash. *shrugs* ahh well, try again next year. i was on top of things up until about 4pm, when i had over 500 mail items left to deliver, it was getting darker and the rain was getting heavier and the administration back at the delivery facility dont accept posties returning after 5pm too well.. (eats into their bonuses)
what a shitfight it was that last hour of delivery. not exactly the day i had in mind for my bday, kinda wanted to knock off around 1/2pm and go explore tunnels with either a girl from work id planned to go do batcave extension with or a girl i reeeeeeeally wanna just... see. and go exploring with.

there were some lovely bits tho, like the birthday salad party spontaniously thrown for me by some of the girls in the locker room (if we sat about eating and laughing anywhere else management wouldnt take it too well, luckily the few ladies whod give a crap didnt walk in on us haha). yum and the salad was soooo good! also ummm... dunno. not much else.

new substances messing with my body/mind. ive coped with so much so far. i *know* i can cope with this.

so this weeks a really fuckin rad one

spent a good chunk of saturday afternoon with roguey baby, he and i kicked it all off with some drain cleaning. i charged up a leaf blower and rode up to curliettedox where he was mulling about in the carpark on punch st. wed decided it would be entertaining footage to capture considering i would be blowing clouds of dust from the overflow of the drain out the grilles next to one of sydneys busiest freeways.

all worked well although the blower died in the arse after a couple minutes, but still blew half of the overflow free of thick concrete dust :) success!!

next on the agenda before the birthday drain gathering, we convoyed it to a roadside 5 seater leather couch and shoved as many pieces of said couch into the roguemobile. also a success!! (although was very tiring!!) took two trips to get the whole couch out of his car, over a fence onto a combined pathway/cycleway then 50m or over the second fence and down a steep nature strip down to the drain entrance. many couples and walkers passing by gave odd stares, a couple offered to help us (without even asking what we were doing rolling large chunks of furniture beside a freeway so far from any houses)

even got a bit of carpet down there. tops!

i rode home for a quick shower to wash off all the yuk sweat and drain crud, with about 20mins to do my legs n pits and get dressed pack drain food and music and speaker and aaaaaaargh so much hahah.

walked up to curliettedox and lay on the couch feeling very accomplished (or also even perhaps a bit exhausted). amber turned up a matter of minutes later, and we sunk into some rose vodka, munched on kit kats and cashews (yum!!)

was a lovely and complete evening, the social aspect of it felt as if it were continually morphing at a fast rate with people drifting in and out from 7pm till somewhere around 3am.

a girl and a boy i know from parties around sydney came along: bec and michael. they both expected it to be stinky and wet and muddy (i guess thats a credited assumption being a drain) but to their suprise, there was a five seat leather couch sitting in the middle of an (almost) completely dry 2.7m diameter round concrete pipe. siolo turned up soonafter and provided us with 4 AA batteries (woohoo! music!) and his chatty warm lovely self :)

boris appeared dangling from the squishy wet entrance:

and we all skipped about the small system, drawing and painting and hanging out just as youd love to on a saturday night!

amber's murder scene (getting artistic hehe)

amber and curly in the dusty side of the overflow, and the lamp from my bedroom finally getting used (i hardly use the lights at home)

lasers yay candles aaaah :)

trioxide n sputty on the lounge :) curliettedox has to be the most suitable drain for a party.. it even has phone coverage coz a mobile cell tower is literally on top, above the main junction room

amber frantically scrubbing away at the non water based thick red paint now kinda stuck

the night was getting along, many had left home and rogue appears as always, at some random early morning hour. being a major help in the set up of the whole gig i thought it was very important he got to enjoy the experience after all that backbreaking effort (now) the day before.

he had a small bag of exciting bright colourful party establishing tubes of fun with him and my drunken curly self felt it VERY appropriate :)

the last moments of the birthday drain gathering, when curly scared half of the people off choking the tunnel with smoke and flaming chunks o' sulfur hahahaha

sweet gorgeous paula trying to protect herself from the onslaught and curly being... curly (notice how the drains cleared out now? hehe)

beautiful lovely paula and sweet awesome roguey baby: finally leaving curliettedox around 3am (i think). clouds of smoke blowing up and away

giggled and joked about with paula and roguey till about sunrise, looking at the video footage of the couch moving and drain cleaning. so many giggles!!! (and spilt vodka drinks on carpet hahah)

woke that morning very seedy and hungover. took about 4 hours of pottering about feeling sick before i got into gear and rode over to the eastern suburbs for some nice old stone/brick sewer tours. waited for paula to turn up around bondi junction but sadly she didnt turn out :(
so wandered down the steep leafy part of sydney to a drain dubbed mass extinction, was perfect draining weather, i was well over the hangover once id walked under the green foliage and along the trail to mass extinctions painfully small entrance. got a call in perfect time from siolo, he said he was parked just up the hill from me, sitting in his torrie, and would wait for me to do the drain.

so upstream i went.

mass extinction has numerous shafts which all have blocked/wedged tight shut covers. tucked away in an insignificant wee catchment it follows a restrictively short course without branches or sidepipes (but its got this awweeeasome bendy little slimey rcp you can slide down on yer bum!!). there is only one shaft which has much in the way of interaction with the ground above:

the rungs leading up the shaft are jam-packed with all sorts of stormwater runoff riches: wrappers, leaves, chord, umbrellas, train tickets...

not the most complex/extensive drainage system. i headed back out the way i came and lit a tiny shower of sparks in the lower bits of the old sandstone sections:

the backbreaking section wasnt much better the other way round, but going downwards is a bit less of an effort (if it were any longer it would be well decent skateboard material!)

my legs shook in shock climbing the stairs up to meet up with siolo after that little adventure poor things haha. he was layed back with a (star trek? star... umm sky?) book left open in that between bit in the front of his car. we had planned to find our way into the old woollahra sewer (well hardly a sewer in poo terms, but ive tended to call it that over the years). i knew of a few ways including a) a long slog up a tiny bitch of an rcp and beyond b) a manhole syme had showed me years back which has always been majorly wedged or c) a hinged grille on the side of a busy street.

he and i decided on the grille, its the most direct way down to the main tunnel.

no dramas! slid through small rcp littered with dried up cigarette butts, down the shaft and the backwards squiggle shimmy into the upper reaches of the system.

just above a short slide which is above a pit, flow swirling about before dissapearing through the eroded wall as if a CDS unit had been installed.

standing above the mutant slide, cutout from sydney sandstone (only partially covered in spraycrete thankfully). will be interesting to see how his photo pointing down the slide came out, to put it all in perspective :)

GROUP SHOT! (kinda stumbled into this one, the stonework is *so* appealing

to avoid that painful slog through small concrete pipes i mentioned earlier (option a) we climbed back out the cigarette butt shaft. the sky was beautiful, looking up through the chunky hinged grilles all glowing and blue. the streetlights had been switched on and siolo was squished up against the side of the box waiting for me to squirm back through and exit together.

once again itll be interesting when he gets his photos scanned, coz he took a photo of me squirming out of the shaft from where hes sitting in this shot.

we parted for a few hours after the woollahra sewer, i payed a short visit with the pony club girls who were editing videos (funny arse vids!!) and doin uni work and dancing in the living room hula-hooping wearing large scary looking costumes:

hahahahah.

i got going to re-meet with siolobaby in marrickville to ch ch check an old hospital. feccie appeared! he was lovely company all hugs n smiles. we (well those two boys did the hard work, manhandling the obscurities while i sat outside, by default keeping an eye out). with lots of tense minutes swooped by with the naughty people brigade often rolling by in close proximity they gained access after a leap of faith into a dark basement. i jumped over and in dangling half in a window when the alarm rang its little siren off wrrrrrrrrrrEEEEAH WRRRREEEEEEAAAAAAAAAH WREEEEEEEEEAH.

and we skedaddled!
to the most AWFULLEST food chain. DIE IN FIRE!! JUNK MAIL BITCHES!

i headed home coz of my postie working hours... got a pretty good night sleep considering it being a sunday night. needed it too, 11 hour day today (im in pain. better go snooze for yet another huge day tomorrow)

xoxox

ahhh cruisey days workin for aus post. takin a 15min break from sorting this morning, i sat back and observed the routine of this large hairy man ive grown very used to the sight of... he has a meat pie and a can pepsi at 7:30am, followed by a can of red bull (and often a second one) and a bottle of powerade. all this, everyday without inculding danishes/sweet pastries. phwooah! now *thats* a diet huh?
delivered random mail all over chatswood and willoughby today, over the crest of alleyne st over near castle cove, the air grew thick with smoke and i saw my first first bushfire smokin' it up over the horzon, it was prolly close to frenches forest/terrey hills.

the girls at work talked me into meeting them at the taaaaavern mayte for drinks after work. i turned up and got a tall glass of water on ice from the bar thinking "ive lived down the road all my life... but ive never been in this pub before".
i chatted with one of the older postmen for a lil bit, who walked over to greet me from a small group of men slurping down a beer. i mentioned im only dropping by for a water on my way to see a head doctor. the conversation was a little stale... he talked of his 30+ years of working at the delivery facility, i smiled lots and giggled. hes always been nice and non freaky at work, but of course after a couple drinks he gets a lil bit loose. hed go to make physical contact with me and then quickly pull back and get embarrased, haha silly goose! we joked about me packing him into my bike and him coming along to my head doctor with me... i said there was only one chair there and hed have to sit on the floor... he said thats fine and then i said "oh but wait, there a flower pot!" and he joked about flowers up his bum or something and then went and asked oh so cheesily about sitting on laps and then he realised i was losing my comfort zone replying with "hmmm, not sure, where are the toilets round here?"

haha hes an adorable oldie all up

hugged nat + shaz goodbye and zoomed off through peak hour traffic into the city to see my old man doctor... uuurg! sydney traffic can get sooooooooooo ugly. being on a bike tho you kind zoom zoom zoom through the middle of it, and i managed to make it to the city perfectly in good time (so i thought)

got into the lift and pressed level 7, doors opened and there he was, the wonder doctor himself...entering the lift with his brown leather old man doctor bag... (shit!) he apologized muchly and said i was booked in for 5pm not 6pm... (fuck!)

ooops.
